This light and airy crochet vest made with Kidsilk Haze is a simple yet very eye-catching project, created by combining luxurious Rowan Kidsilk Haze mohair yarn and Rowan Felted Tweed. This oversized crochet vest features a delicate striped effect achieved by alternating yarns and using a larger hook. The tone-on-tone color combination enhances the texture, making this beginner-friendly crochet project modern, elegant, and easy to follow without complex stitch patterns.
The choice of yarns and colors plays a key role in this project. Rowan Felted Tweed is a medium-weight yarn with a subtle tweed effect, composed of 50% wool, 25% viscose, and 25% alpaca, with a yardage of approximately 175 m per 50 g. Rowan Kidsilk Haze, on the other hand, is a very fine and airy yarn made of 70% mohair and 30% silk, with a yardage of approximately 210 m per 25 g. When choosing colors, I recommend going for tone-on-tone shades—this way the darker and lighter stripes really stand out. I tested different types and color combinations, which is why the front and back panels in the video are made in different colorways. Originally, I planned to crochet a sweater, but in the end, I liked the vest for spring or autumn much more.

When I shared the beginning of the vest, even the manufacturer Rowan reached out to me and included the design in their Valentine’s selection. I was absolutely thrilled. We unboxed the Rowan yarns in the podcast Povídání u klubíčka #125, and you can read the article here. You can purchase Rowan yarns at Textilni-galanterie.cz or in the Filium store located in OC Palladium in Prague.

I designed the vest as an oversized model that is modern, comfortable, and suitable even for complete beginners. The entire project is based on a simple concept of crocheting two identical rectangular panels. We work from the bottom edge upwards without any shaping. There are no decreases or increases, which makes the pattern very clear and easy to follow. If you prefer a shaped neckline, simply leave out about three rows in the center of the front panel and continue crocheting only the shoulders. This simple step creates a natural neckline without complicated construction.
To make the vest in this size, you will need two balls of Rowan Kidsilk Haze and two balls of Rowan Felted Tweed. For a smaller size (EU 38–40), two balls of Kidsilk Haze and one ball of Felted Tweed are sufficient. Once both panels are finished, join them together and then crochet around the bottom edge, neckline, and armholes.
The finished vest is airy, lightweight, yet pleasantly warm. It is perfect for layering—you can wear it over a shirt, a turtleneck, or any long-sleeve top. It’s a timeless piece that you can easily adapt to your own style and color combination.
I hope your Kidsilk Haze vest turns out beautifully and that you wear your handmade piece with joy.
