Crochet Mohair Rose with a Ruler Tutorial

21 května, 2026

In today’s tutorial, we will crochet a rose from Drops Kid-Silk mohair yarn using an unusual technique. We will crochet with the help of a ruler.

Drops Kid-Silk is a beautifully fluffy yarn made of 75% mohair and 25% silk. One ball weighs 25 g and has 210 m. It is suitable either as an additional strand held together with another yarn, or for crocheting garments directly. The silk beautifully softens the mohair content. The yarn has a slight halo, so if you need to frog your work, I recommend using slow movements and gently lifting the stitches one by one. From Drops Kid-Silk, or yarns with a similar yardage, you can crochet a trendy oversized striped vest and an elegant narrow scarf called Pírko.

When crocheting garments, it is useful to choose a larger hook. The material becomes wonderfully light and airy, and the finished piece feels like a little cloud.

We unboxed the Drops yarns in the podcast Povídání u klubíčka #127, and you can read the article here.

As for crocheting the rose, we will try an unusual crochet technique using a ruler. We pull up the individual loops and place them onto the ruler. Once the loops are completed, we slide them off the ruler and crochet a row of single crochet stitches. When the strip is ready, we roll it into the shape of a rose and secure the finished flower by sewing it together.

You can use this rose as a brooch on clothing – brooches are coming back into fashion. You can also sew the rose onto a hair tie or attach it to a hair clip. If you crochet more roses and add stems, for example using a hot glue gun, you can create a beautiful arrangement for a vase. The roses will also look lovely on a cardboard or other wreath base as a door wreath.

I hope your Mohair Rose turns out beautifully. If you would like to inspire others or share your experience with crocheting or styling the rose, I would be very happy to see your photos. MOHAIR ROSE

Yarn: Drops Kid-Silk, colour 40 Ice Pink
Yarn usage: 1 ball makes 3–4 roses
Hook: 2 mm
Size: flower diameter depends on the number of chain stitches, approx. 8–12 cm
Other supplies: a yarn needle with a large eye, a straight ruler approx. 4 cm wide
Time required: approx. 90 minutes
Skill level: for adventurous beginners

Abbreviations

ch – chain stitch
sc – single crochet
picot – a picot is made of three chain stitches and one slip stitch.

ROSE, 2 mm hook

Row 1: Chain 80–100 stitches, crocheting loosely. Turn.

Row 2: Into each chain stitch, crochet two pulled-up loops and place them onto the ruler. Insert the hook alternately once into the chain stitch and once behind the strand of yarn.

Row 3: Slide all the loops off the ruler. Into each pulled-up loop, crochet 2 single crochet stitches. Above every third single crochet, you can make a picot, which consists of three chain stitches and one slip stitch.

Approximately thirty chain stitches before the end of the row, which means about 60 pulled-up loops, crochet 3 single crochet stitches into each pulled-up loop. This will make the edge of the rose more wavy.

After finishing, leave a sufficiently long yarn tail for sewing.

FINISHING

Sew the inner part and the outer petal part together at the magic ring. Do not pull too tightly — the yarn may break if pulled too hard.
