Crochet Mohair Flower with a Ruler

14 května, 2026

In today’s tutorial, we will crochet a flower using Drops Kid-Silk mohair yarn. We will be working elongated loops around a ruler and shaping them into a circle.

Drops Kid-Silk is a beautifully airy yarn made of 75% mohair and 25% silk. One ball weighs 25 g and has 210 m. It is suitable either as a carry-along yarn or for crocheting garments on its own. The silk beautifully softens the mohair content. The yarn has a slight halo, so if you need to frog your work, I recommend moving slowly and lifting the stitches one by one. With Drops Kid-Silk, or yarns with a similar yardage, you can crochet a trendy oversized striped vest, a solid-colour vest, an elegant narrow Feather scarf, or an ultra-short crop top. When crocheting garments, it is useful to use a larger hook. The material becomes wonderfully light and airy, and the finished piece feels like a little cloud.

We unboxed the Drops yarns in the podcast Povídání u klubíčka #127, and you can read the article here. Drops Kid-Silk yarns in a wide range of colours are available at NOEZON.cz or NOEZON.sk.

VIDEO TUTORIAL PREMIERE supplemented with automatically generated subtitles. Did you know that you can slow down a YouTube video and adjust it to your own crochet pace?

In the previous video tutorial, we showed how to crochet straight rows around a ruler. You can find the video tutorial for the little rose here. This flower is crocheted in the round and consists of two components. Both parts are worked from a magic ring. The individual loops are pulled up and placed onto a ruler. In the final round, we crochet single crochet stitches. Once both pieces are finished, we sew the flower together.

With a smooth edge, the flower resembles a daffodil, while with a picot edge it looks like a poppy. This finished flower can be used as a brooch on clothing — brooches are coming back into fashion. You can also sew the flower onto a hair tie or attach it to a hair clip. If you crochet several flowers and add stems using a hot glue gun, you can create a beautiful arrangement for a vase. The flowers can also be used to make a delicate door wreath.

Crocheting this flower inspired me to create the Flower Fairy, which you can look forward to soon.

I hope your Mohair Flower turns out beautifully. If you would like to inspire others or share your experience with crocheting or styling the flower, I would be very happy to see your photos. Abbreviations

ch – chain
sc – single crochet
MR – magic ring
dc – double crochet
sl st – slip stitch
picot – three chain stitches and one slip stitch

INNER PART OF THE FLOWER, 2 mm hook

Round 1: Into the MR, crochet 1 ch instead of the first sc, then 15 sc. Join with a sl st. (16)

Round 2: Into each stitch, crochet TWO elongated loops and place them onto the ruler. Insert the hook once under the back loop and once under the front loop. Once you have approximately half of the loops on the ruler, about 17 loops, slide the loops off the ruler and place the last elongated loop back onto the ruler. Continue with this technique to the end of the round. At the end of the round, slide all loops off the ruler.

Round 3: Pull the yarn up to the height of the first loop, insert the hook into the loop and crochet 1 sc. Crochet 1 sc into each loop. Finish the round with a sl st. Fasten off. Leave a sufficiently long tail for weaving in.

OUTER PART OF THE FLOWER, 2 mm hook

Round 1: Into the MR, crochet 3 ch instead of the first dc, then 29 dc. Join with a sl st. (30)

Round 2: Into each stitch, crochet TWO elongated loops and place them onto the ruler. Insert the hook once under the back loop and once under the front loop. Once you have approximately half of the loops on the ruler, slide the loops off the ruler and place the last elongated loop back onto the ruler. Continue with this technique to the end of the round. At the end of the round, slide all loops off the ruler.

Round 3: Pull the yarn up to the height of the first loop, insert the hook into the loop and crochet 1 sc. Crochet 1 sc into each loop. You can crochet a picot above every third sc, i.e. 3 ch and 1 sl st. Finish the round with a sl st. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Sew the inner part and the outer petal part together at the magic ring. Do not pull too tightly — the yarn may break if pulled too hard.
