In today’s video tutorial, we’ll crochet a cover for a Christmas bauble using Vlna Hep Patty yarn.
Vlna Hep Patty comes in 100 g skeins with a length of 185 meters. It’s made of 98% acrylic and 2% metallic thread. The yarn is beautifully soft, perfect for projects from autumn to spring, and the subtle lurex sparkle adds a touch of elegance without scratching the skin.
VIDEO PATTERN (English Subtitles)
When it comes to the Christmas ornament – or as we say, “baňka” – this time we’ll crochet a ribbed strip to form the cover. The strip should be as long as the circumference of the bauble and as tall as its height.
My polystyrene bauble measured about 21 cm in circumference and 10 cm in height, so I crocheted a rectangle 10 cm wide and about 16–17 cm long. Thanks to the ribbed stitch pattern, the cover stretches beautifully. If you were using a less elastic stitch, you’d need to crochet a few extra rows.
For the pattern, we’ll alternate rows of slip stitches and single crochets worked in the third loop. I highly recommend watching the video to see exactly where to insert the hook. The texture looks absolutely luxurious, gives a knitted-like appearance, and has a lovely stretch.
Natural-colored baubles will make a beautiful Christmas decoration — perfect for hanging on the tree, arranging on branches in a vase, using as an outdoor ornament, a small handmade gift, or even a gift topper.
💡 TIPS FOR YOU:
Instead of a polystyrene base, you can reuse an old Christmas bauble (7–8 cm in diameter) — the crocheted cover will give it a fresh, stylish, upcycled look.

PATTY CHRISTMAS BAUBLE – Crochet Pattern (Beginner Friendly)
Yarn: Vlna Hep Patty, any color you like
Yarn usage: leftover yarns are perfect
Hook: 4 mm
Bauble base: polystyrene ball, 7–8 cm in diameter
Wooden bead: approx. 1 cm diameter
Tools: tapestry needle, stitch marker
Time: about 45 minutes
Skill level: beginner
Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SS – slip stitch
SC in 3rd loop – single crochet in the third loop
TCH – turning chain (CH used instead of the first SC)
Bauble Cover (Hook 4 mm)
Row 1: Leave a longer tail and chain 20 CH + 1 CH to turn.
Row 2: Insert the hook into the second chain from the hook and make SS. Continue working SS into each chain (back loop only). Turn. (20 sts)
Row 3: 1 CH instead of the first SC, then work SC in the third loop across. Count your stitches – you should have 20 SC3rdLoop without the turning chain. Turn.
Rows 4–35: Alternate Row 2 and Row 3. Finish with a Row of SC in the third loop. Measure your rectangle — it should be about 10 cm wide and 16 cm long. If it’s shorter, add a few more rows.
Row 36 (Joining): On the wrong side, join the last and first row together using SS, inserting the hook through the back loop of the last row and the loop of the foundation chain. Leave a long yarn tail.
Finishing & Hanging Loop
Using the long tail, sew one side of the tube closed. Thread a wooden bead onto a piece of white cord, and tie several knots underneath the bead to secure it.
Insert the polystyrene ball into the crocheted cover. Tighten and sew the second side closed, inserting the bead with the hanging loop just before closing completely.
Your cozy Patty Crochet Christmas Bauble is ready — elegant, textured, and perfect for any holiday décor!
