Moonlight Horseshoe

19 listopadu, 2025

In today’s video tutorial, we’ll crochet a little lucky horseshoe. We’ll be using Vlna Hep Moonlight yarn.

Vlna Hep Moonlight is a popular thin 100% cotton yarn (100 g / 550 m), often used for crocheted doilies, tablecloths, and Christmas ornaments. It’s also perfect for lightweight summer clothing. Today, we’ll use this yarn to make a lucky horseshoe. It can decorate your Christmas tree or add a charming touch to a wrapped Christmas gift.

VIDEO TUTORIAL (ENGLISH SUBTITLES)

As for the little horseshoe, even a beginner can crochet it. We’ll use a 2 mm hook and work in rows, back and forth. Once the horseshoe is finished, just starch it. I use slightly diluted Alba Effect starch, a polystyrene board covered with food wrap as a base, and injection needles as pins for shaping—they don’t rust. For the pattern, we’ll use double crochet, chain stitches, single crochet, and yarn-over decrease stitches. You can decorate the horseshoe with a thin ribbon or jute twine.

TIPS FOR YOU: Feel free to try other colors of Vlna Hep Moonlight. For example, red will also look beautifully festive.

I hope your Moonlight horseshoe turns out great. Would you like to inspire others or share your experience with crocheting the Moonlight horseshoe? Horseshoe, 2 mm hook

Row 1:

Before crocheting, pull out a longer tail of yarn, fold it in half, and begin crocheting with the yarn held double. Crochet from the folded point toward the free end. Start with a chain of 25 chains. From this point on, crochet using only a single strand of yarn.

Row 2:

CH 1, SC in the first stitch, CH 2, skip 2 stitches, SC in the third stitch,
CH 2, skip 2, SC in the third stitch,
CH 2, skip 2, SC in the third stitch.
>CH 2, skip 1 stitch, SC–CH2–SC into the second stitch.
>CH 2, skip 1 stitch, SC–CH2–SC into the second stitch.
>CH 2, skip 1 stitch, SC into the second stitch.
Continue working the sequence CH 2, skip 2, SC in the third stitch until the end of the row.

Row 3:

CH 2 (counts as DC), DC into the next stitch.
In the first SC, crochet: DC, then a 4-yarn-over puff stitch (yarn-over 4 times, draw through all loops), and DC into the same SC.
Repeat this sequence across the row (15 clusters total).
Finish the row with DC in SC and DC into the turning chain.

Row 4:

CH 2 (counts as DC), DC into DC.
Then work: SC, SC between DCs, 2 SC into DC (repeat 3 times).
Next: HDC, 2 HDC between DCs, HDC into the HDC above the 4th bubble.
Above the 5th bubble: 2 HDC into DC, 2 HDC between DCs, HDC into DC.
Chain 4, SS.
Then: 2 HDC into DC, HDC between DCs, 2 HDC into DC above the 6th bubble.
HDC, 2 HDC between DCs, HDC into DC above the 7th bubble.
Mirror the other side: 2 SC into DC, SC between DCs, SC into DC (repeat 3 times).
Finish with DC into DC and DC into the second chain of the turning chain.

TIP

If you want to crochet a border around the inner part of the horseshoe, continue in the same direction:
CH 1 (instead of SC), then 2 SC across one row of DC, 2 SC across the next row of DC, SC into SC.
Along the bottom inner curve, crochet 2–3 SC.
Continue edging the inside of the horseshoe with slip stitches.
Work the opposite side as a mirror: SC in SC, 2 SC across DC row, 2 SC across DC row, SS.

Finishing

Weave in all loose ends and starch the piece.
