crochet socks pattern

Home no-show socks instead of slippers? Why not! This small retro quick project made from Vlna-Hep Best Socks 6-Fach yarn will give you maximum comfort for cozy home wear.

Vlna-Hep Best Socks 6-Fach is a 150 g ball with a total length of 420 meters. The 6-Fach designation means a six-ply yarn – a classic sock yarn composed of 75% superwash wool (machine washable) and 25% polyamide. This time-tested combination ensures durability, resistance, and pleasant warmth of the finished piece. The Best Socks range also offers a wide color palette, so everyone can find their dream shade. Besides socks, this sock yarn is perfect for sweaters, home blankets, throws, and bedspreads.

Attention – a thinner version is also available! Best Socks 4-Fach is a finer sock yarn (four-ply), sold in a 100 g ball with a length of 420 meters. The composition remains the same: 75% superwash wool and 25% polyamide. The Best Socks yarn was kindly provided by the manufacturer Vlna-Hep – thank you very much!

🎥 VIDEO TUTORIAL  (Czech only)

When making these low-cut home socks, I started in an unconventional way with a classic foundation chain that was regularly increased in two places. Single crochets are followed by “V-stitches” made of half double crochets, creating a knit-like texture. First, we crochet in rounds to the length of the instep. Then we continue working in rows back and forth to the full length of the foot. In the final step, the straight part is folded and crocheted together using slip stitches. After that, the edge is finished with V-stitches made of single crochet – and the socks are done!

I believe these home slipper socks are suitable even for beginners. For a narrower size, you can either use a shorter foundation chain or make fewer increases in the chain. Adjust the length of the socks according to the length of your foot and your tension. Unfortunately, I haven’t tested other sizes. If you want to make sure both socks look the same, I recommend crocheting them at the same time. Use the yarn from the center pull for one sock and from the outside of the ball for the second sock.

Pattern notes

The socks are crocheted starting from the foundation chain. Work in continuous rounds without closing the rows to avoid a visible seam. In the next part (heel section), work in rows back and forth. The turning chain “N” is made of 2 chains and 1 stitch into the pattern. Finish each row with a half double crochet (hdc) into the second chain of the turning chain.

Sock Toe – 4 mm hook

Round 1:
Chain 12 stitches + 2 ch for turning, turn.

Round 2:
Insert the hook into the 3rd chain from the hook and make sc (place a stitch marker). Continue with sc in each chain.
At the end of the chain, crochet 5 sc into the last stitch (place a marker in the middle stitch of these 5).
Continue on the opposite side of the foundation chain and work sc in each stitch.
At the end of the round, crochet 3 sc into the stitch with the marker and place the marker into the last sc.
You now have 29 sc. Continue to the next round with sc placed between the turning chain and the first sc.

Round 3:
Crochet sc into sc.
In the stitch with the marker, crochet 2 sc, moving the marker into the second sc.
Continue sc in each stitch.
At the end of the round, crochet 2 sc into the stitch with the marker, moving the marker into the first sc. (31 stitches)

Round 4:
Crochet sc in each stitch.
In the stitch with the marker, crochet 2 sc, moving the marker into the first sc.
Continue sc in each stitch.
At the end of the round, crochet 2 sc into the stitch with the marker, moving the marker into the second sc. (33 stitches)

Note: Alternating the increase direction prevents the toe from twisting.

Round 5:
Crochet sc in each stitch.
In the stitch with the marker, crochet 2 sc, moving the marker into the second sc.
Continue sc in each stitch.
At the end of the round, crochet 2 sc into the stitch with the marker, moving the marker into the first sc. (35 stitches)

Round 6:
Crochet sc in each stitch.
In the stitch with the marker, crochet 2 sc, moving the marker into the first sc.
Continue sc in each stitch.
At the end of the round, crochet 2 sc into the stitch with the marker, moving the marker into the second sc. (37 stitches)

Round 7:
Crochet sc in each stitch.
In the stitch with the marker, crochet 2 sc, moving the marker into the second sc.
Continue sc in each stitch.
At the end of the round, crochet 2 sc into the stitch with the marker. Do not move this marker anymore. (39 stitches)

Round 8:
Crochet sc in each stitch.
In the stitch with the marker, crochet 2 sc, moving the marker into the first sc.
Continue sc in each stitch to the end of the round. (40 stitches)

Rounds 9–10:
Work sc in each stitch in continuous rounds. (40 stitches)

Transition to the pattern stitch

Round 11:
At the side of the sock, where you started crocheting in the round, switch from sc to HDC V-stitches (place a marker).

Start with ch 1, yarn over, insert hook into the stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over, insert hook into the next stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all 5 loops on the hook, ch 1.

The next V-stitch starts in the following stitch.
You will have 20 V-stitch posts in this round.

Rounds 12–23:
Crochet HDC V-stitches.
Each V-stitch starts under the chain space before the previous V and ends under the chain space after it.
The next V-stitch starts where the previous one ended.
Do not forget the ch 1 between stitches.

Note:
Adjust the number of rounds according to the length of your instep. Make a note of the number of rounds.

Sole / Heel section (worked in rows)

Round 24:
Work the V-stitches back and forth in rows, starting from the marker.

The front instep part consists of 8 V-stitch posts – these are no longer worked.
The sole of the slipper consists of 12 V-stitch posts.

Start with the turning chain:
Ch 2 (counts as turning chain), ch 1 into the pattern.

Crochet 12 V-stitch posts.
At the end of the row, crochet hdc under the chain space. Turn.

Rows 25–34:
Turning chain: ch 2, ch 1,
Work 12 V-stitch posts,
Finish with hdc into the second chain of the turning chain, turn.

Note:
The pattern will slightly change its appearance!
Adjust the number of rows to match the length of your foot.

Finishing – Heel seam

Fold the straight strip lengthwise in half, with the right side inside.
Join the edges with slip stitches, creating the heel seam.
Insert the hook alternately under the chain space and into the center of the V-stitch.
Fasten off the yarn.

Sock Cuff – 4 mm hook

Round 1:
Attach the yarn at the point where the stitch marker is placed.
Crochet ch 2 and continue with 8 SC V-stitches in the instep area.

For the SC V-stitch:
Insert the hook under the chain space, pull up a loop, insert the hook under the next chain space, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on the hook, ch 1.

The next V-stitch starts where the previous one ends.
Crochet the side edges of the slipper using SC V-stitches.

At the end of the round, insert the hook between the turning chain and the first V-stitch and continue working in continuous rounds without closing.

Sock Cuff – 3 mm hook

Rounds 2–7:
Crochet SC V-stitches in continuous rounds around the slipper.

In the last round, three stitches before the end of the round, crochet:
sl st V-stitch, sl st V-stitch, sl st under the chain space, sl st into the center of the V-stitch, then fasten off.

For the sl st V-stitch:
Insert the hook under the chain space, pull up a loop, insert the hook under the next chain space, pull up a loop, and without yarn over, pull the last loop through the two loops on the hook, ch 1.
