YarnTalk #126 Luxury Cotton Schachenmayr Catania Grande – Features and Uses

12 února, 2026

Today’s episode of Povídání u klubíčka #126 is all about spring and colors. We brewed some coffee, started the live stream, and unboxed luxurious yarns from Schachenmayr together. If you love cotton and are looking for high-quality yarn for spring and summer projects, you’ll truly enjoy this episode.

The main highlight of the stream was Catania Grande from the Catania Family. It is made from 100% Egyptian cotton that is both combed and mercerized – and these two finishing processes are exactly what make it such a premium-quality material. If you are a wholesaler, visit MezShop.cz or MezShop.sk. If you are a customer, head over to Klubickaodsrdicka.cz, where all Schachenmayr yarns are available in stock.

Why is combed and mercerized cotton so special? During production, combed cotton is stripped of short and weak fibers. As a result, the yarn becomes smoother, stronger, less prone to pilling, and very comfortable to wear. Mercerization gives the fiber a subtle sheen, enhances the colors, increases durability, and creates a smooth, beautifully defined surface. If you crochet lace patterns or textured motifs, you will truly notice the difference.

Schachenmayr Catania Grande has a yardage of 50 g / 63 m and is made from 100% Egyptian cotton. It is available in 17 beautiful shades. Compared to the classic Catania (or Catania Color), which has 50 g / 125 m, the Grande version is approximately twice as thick. This means faster progress and a more pronounced stitch definition. You can purchase Catania Grande here.

Thanks to its thickness and high-quality cotton, Catania Grande is ideal for spring hats, shawls, and lightweight cowls, lace summer sweaters, crocheted toys (which will be larger and sturdier), as well as bags, cushions, and other home accessories. It holds its shape beautifully, highlights stitch texture, and remains soft and pleasant to the touch.

I personally tested Catania Grande and frogged several swatches before settling on a light openwork pattern that I will use for a spring sweater. I have 10 balls (500 g total). I’m using a 7 mm hook and expect it to be enough for a size 42 sweater with 3/4 sleeves.

Happy crocheting, and don’t forget to follow MezKreativ on Facebook or Instagram.

Wishing you relaxing moments with your hook,
Krampolinka
