Crochet Sněhurka Pumpkin

7 září, 2025

he pumpkin season is coming. Let’s crochet a beautiful pumpkin using the Sněhurka yarn.

Let’s admit it – buying yarn and crocheting are two completely different hobbies. On Friday after work, I came home and needed to relax. Some people go to the gym, but I go to my local haberdashery in Kroměříž. My eye was caught by Sněhurka yarn from Niťárna, a yarn I had never used before. It is 100% cotton, and in a 30 g ball you get 200 meters of yarn. Converted, that equals approximately 660 meters per 100 g. Sněhurka is suitable for everything from Christmas ornaments and doilies to crocheted clothing. It can be washed at 60°.

In the shop, I spotted a beautiful orange and green shade, and the idea of a pumpkin was born. But as luck would have it, right next to the yarn there was a small box of colorful variegated and solid Ariadna sewing threads. The variegated polyester threads matched the Sněhurka colors so perfectly that I happily left with two ideas in mind: there would be a pumpkin, and I would also combine Sněhurka with the variegated thread.

Pumpkin, 2 mm hook

Row 1: Crochet a chain of 31 stitches.
Row 2: Work 1 HDC in the 2nd chain from the hook. Continue with 1 HDC in each chain across. Turn. (30)
Row 3: 1 CH as a turning chain instead of the first HDC. Work 1 HDC3LO in each stitch across. The last stitch goes into the turning chain. Count your stitches. Turn. (30)
Row 4: 2 CH as a substitute for the first stitch. In the next stitch, crochet 5 DC together. 1 SL ST in the next stitch. Repeat across. You will have 14 puff-like clusters. Finish with 1 SL ST into the turning chain. Turn.

Row 5: 2 CH instead of the first stitch. Crochet 2 SC into each cluster stitch across. Push the puff clusters to the right side. Finish with 1 SC in the turning chain. Count your stitches. Turn. (30)
Row 6: 1 CH instead of the first HDC. Crochet 1 HDC in each stitch across. Count your stitches. Turn. (30)
Rows 7–57: Repeat rows 3–6. Finish with a row of single crochets.

Sewing the pumpkin, 2 mm hook

Row 1: Fold the short sides together and join the edges on the right side with slip stitches. Then pick up the chain from Row 1 and the front loop of the opposite side, joining with SL ST across. Do not fasten off. Crochet 1 SC into each row around. The top will start to gather.
Row 2: 1 CH as a substitute for a SL ST. Work SL ST in the back loop only all around. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Finishing

Thread the yarn tail onto a needle and weave it through the stitches, pulling tight to close the opening. Stuff the pumpkin with fiberfill. With the needle, pass the yarn through the center of the pumpkin and pull to shape the opposite side. Note: The more you pull, the flatter the pumpkin will become. No shaping is needed, the textured stitch pattern creates the form.

Leaf, 2 mm hook

Row 1: Leave a long tail for sewing the leaf to the center of the pumpkin. Crochet 12 CH.
Row 2: In the 2nd CH from the hook: 1 SL ST. Next CH: 1 SC. Next CH: 1 HDC, and CH: 1 DC and finally next CH: 1 DC. In the next CH: 1 TR crochet in two steps. In the same CH: 2 × TR, then 4 CH, and 1 SL ST in the same CH. Continue with SL STs across the chain. On the other side of the chain, work SL ST up to the CH where you made the TRs. Mirror the pattern: 4 CH, 2 × TR, 1 TR in two steps, 1 DC, 1 DC, 1 HDC, 1 SC, finish with 1 SL ST. Weave in one yarn end, and sew the leaf to the pumpkin center with the long tail.

Tendril, 2 mm hook

Row 1: Crochet a chain of 20–25 CH. In the 2nd CH from the hook, crochet 5 HDC. Continue working into the chain (through one loop only), making 5 HDC in each stitch. At the end of the chain, crochet 3 CH and 1 SL ST in the last stitch. Fasten off with a long tail and knot the ends together. If the tendril is twisted, align all stitches in the same direction.

Finishing
Weave in all loose ends.
