Today, we’re back with the Four Seasons Blanket! In 2023, we crocheted the squares – now it’s time to join them, add the border, and finish your masterpiece.
I decided to go with the four-square version, which became the Four Seasons Blanket. The yarn consumption for one square is approximately 550 meters of a three-ply gradient yarn cake (depending on my tension). For joining and edging the blanket, you will need about 400 meters. In total, you should count on approximately 2,600 meters of yarn. You can freely combine the colors of the squares – the possibilities are endless. For the decorative border, I recommend choosing a shade that is repeated in the individual squares so that the whole piece matches nicely. A light shade will stand out beautifully.

TIPS FOR YOU:
If you manage to get hold of a larger piece of polystyrene, you can use it for blocking and as “storage” for your squares – we’ll be stacking the squares on top of each other throughout the entire project. This way, the squares will keep the same shape and will be easier to join. This dense pattern is also suitable for a crocheted pillow. For that, I would even choose a six-ply yarn.
I hope your squares for the blanket turn out beautifully. Do you feel like inspiring others or sharing your experience with crocheting the Four Seasons Blanket? Please share photos of your squares and blankets in the Krampolinka Facebook group.

In the corner crochet ch1, sc into ch1 space, ch1. Repeat the pattern between asterisks. Finish the round with ch1 and sl st into the sc. TURN.
Round 3: Work half of the corner pattern. Crochet ch3 as a substitute for the first dc, then dc and dc into the sc in the corner. Ch5 over the flower. In the corner crochet 3 dc into sc, ch3, and 3 dc into sc. Repeat the pattern between asterisks. Finish the round with the second half of the last corner: 3 dc into sc, ch1, and hdc into the third chain of the beginning ch3. End the round in the middle of the ch3 corner space. TURN.

Finish the round with the second half of the last corner: 3 dc into sc, ch1, and hdc into the third chain of the beginning ch3. End the round in the middle of the ch3 corner space. TURN.
Rounds 6–31: Repeat Rounds 4 and 5. On the right side, crochet the fans; on the wrong side, crochet single crochets and chain stitches over the flowers. I recommend counting the number of flowers on each side of the square after every second row. The biggest challenge is usually crocheting the first and last flower in the corners. Finish with the round where you crochet single crochets and chains over the flowers. TURN.
Square Border – hook 2.5 mm
Round 32: Work on the right side of the square. Work half of the corner pattern. Crochet ch3 as a substitute for the first dc, then dc into the corner space. Dc into the first dc, dc into the next dc. Then 2 dc into ch1 space, dc (worked every other row) into the center of the flower, 2 dc into ch1 space. Repeat this sequence until you reach the next corner. In each corner space crochet 2 dc – ch1 – 2 dc. Continue with dc into the first dc, dc into the second dc, 2 dc into ch1 space, dc into the flower center, 2 dc into ch1 space. At the end of the round, in the last corner work 2 dc and sl st into the third chain of the beginning ch3.

Joining the Squares – hook 4 or 5 mm
Work on the right side of the blanket. Attach the yarn in the corner of a square and crochet ch1. This will connect the squares. Next, insert the hook under the chain stitch loop, then pick up the back loop of one square and the front loop of the other square. Yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook. Then crochet sc. Continue by inserting the hook under the loop of the previous stitch, the back loop on one square, and the front loop on the other square. Yarn over, pull through all three loops, and crochet sc.
After joining, fasten off the yarn leaving a sufficient tail. Join the next two squares in the same way. Then join the square blocks together. Work from the outer edge toward the center. Fasten off, reattach the yarn in the center, and continue in the same direction from the center outward.
Border, hook 3 mm
Round 1: Attach the yarn in the blanket corner. Crochet ch3 as a substitute for dc, ch1 into the pattern and dc into the corner. Then ch1, skip a stitch, and dc into the next stitch. The pattern for this round is ch1, skip one stitch, dc into the next stitch. In the corner crochet dc–ch1–dc–ch1–dc. Finish the round with dc into the corner, ch1, and sl st into the second chain of the beginning ch3. This will leave you in the middle of the corner space. Turn.
Round 2: Ch1 and sc into the corner space. Crochet ch7 and sc into the third space. Ch5, skip one space, and sc into the next one. Repeat the pattern ch7–sc into the third space, and ch5–sc into the second space. Before and after each corner, there should be ch7 arches. In the corner crochet sc into ch1 space, ch5, sc into the corner ch1 space. Finish the round with sc into ch1 space, ch3, and dc into sc. This will leave you in the middle of the arch. Turn.
Round 3: Ch3 as a substitute for dc, then 4 dc into the arch, ch7, sc into the arch of ch7. Continue with the pattern ch5, 5 dc into the arch of ch5, ch5, sc into the arch of ch7. Repeat the pattern. In the corner crochet ch7, 5 dc into the corner arch of ch5, ch7. Continue the pattern. Finish the round with ch4 and dc into the beginning chain. Turn.
Round 4: Ch1 and sc into the arch. The pattern for this round is 3 dc into sc, sc into the arch of ch5, ch7 over dc from the previous round, and sc into the arch of ch5. Repeat the pattern. In the corner crochet sc into the arch of ch7, ch7, sc into the third dc in the corner, ch7, and sc into the arch. Continue the pattern. Finish the round with ch4 and dc into the beginning chain. Turn.
Round 5: Ch1 and sc into the arch, ch1. Into the sc in the corner crochet dc3tog–ch2–dc3tog–ch2–dc3tog, ch2, and sc into the arch of ch7. Continue with the pattern ch2, dc3tog–ch2–dc3tog–ch2–dc3tog, ch2, and sc into the arch of ch7. In the corner crochet dc3tog–ch2–dc3tog–ch2–dc3tog into sc, ch2, and sc into the arch of ch7. Continue the pattern. Finish the round with sl st. Fasten off the yarn.
Finishing
Weave in all loose ends. Sew the center of the blanket using the remaining yarn tail. Pick up the last stitches of the joining, tighten them, and weave in the tail on the wrong side.
