Crochet Vintara Headscarf

26 července, 2025

In today’s video tutorial, we’ll crochet a simple and stylish boho headscarf – perfect not only for summer.

The idea for this headscarf came to me on a warm summer day. I was inspired by the classic Czech fairytale The Madly Sad Princess, where Helena Vondráčková wears a fabric headscarf tied in her hair – a simple yet elegant accessory. I wanted to translate that same grace and charm into a crocheted version.

The Vintara Headscarf is worked from the bottom point upwards in back-and-forth rows. It features a beautiful, airy floral pattern, making it light and breathable. Along the edges, a decorative border naturally forms as you crochet, so there’s no need for additional finishing.

One great advantage of this design is its narrower shape – it fits snugly and doesn’t puff up awkwardly on your head. I was honestly surprised at how much brands like Prada charge for a crocheted headscarf!

The very first headscarf I ever made was for my daughter back in 2017. Check out that tutorial (Czech) where I show how to finish the scarf with an elastic band so it stays on children’s heads better. This new version for adults features ties, so you can secure it comfortably at the back.

I crocheted the Vintara Headscarf using a gradient yarn cake – the 3-ply “Makronky 1” from Hravá klubka.
>I used about 200 meters of yarn and a 3 mm crochet hook. I recommend using light shades or natural colors, which beautifully highlight the pattern. Light colors also flatter darker hair tones.

How to determine the right size of the scarf?
Start by measuring your head circumference – from one earlobe, over the top of your head, to the other earlobe. This measurement determines the length of the final row of the triangular scarf, so you can easily adjust it to fit perfectly.

Where and how to wear the headscarf?
This boho-style scarf is not only a practical summer accessory – it’s also perfect for festivals, vacations, or simply as part of a romantic outfit with a flowy dress. It’s lightweight, trendy, and the lace pattern adds that touch of slow fashion charm.
