Today, we’ll crochet a beautiful hat using the new Re-Cotton yarn. In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to crochet a delicate flower stitch pattern in the round.
VlnaHep Re-Cotton is a blended yarn made of 80% cotton and 20% polyester. Each ball weighs 50g and measures 100m. The yarn is soft, thanks to a slight twist, and is perfect for both clothing (especially lacy patterns) and home décor projects like pillows, rugs, placemats, or coasters. There are 42 colors to choose from.
VIDEO TUTORIAL PREMIERE – Czech WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES
The base of the hat is similar to the Re-Cotton coaster pattern. In the video, I used that section for the starting part of the hat. Once we have 16 flower motifs around, we continue crocheting without increasing. When the hat reaches a depth of around 16 cm (for an adult size), we switch to a smaller hook and start crocheting the brim using single crochet stitches, including back loop only stitches. The brim has a slightly wavy edge. If you prefer it to lay flat, adjust the increase pattern accordingly.
The flower stitch in the round is more advanced. Each round ends either with a slip stitch or with a combination of a chain and a double crochet. This helps the round finish in the middle of an arch, which aligns with the structure of the next round. If this method seems difficult, try practicing the flower pattern in rows back and forth, as used in the Florens Scarf, Paris Scarf, or the Tulip circular scarf. Each petal of the flower is created with two joined double crochets. Be aware that in some diagrams, this may be labeled as a “popcorn” stitch. We intentionally use a smaller hook to ensure the hat and brim hold their shape.
Tips for You:
Adjusting the size with this pattern is tricky.
• 8 flower motifs = approx. 35 cm head circumference (0–6 months)
• 12 flower motifs = approx. 50 cm head circumference
• 16 flower motifs = approx. 56 cm head circumference (adult)
Best of luck with your Re-Cotton Flower Hat!

Re-Cotton Flower Hat – Crochet Instructions
Using a 2.5 mm hook
Crown of the Hat
Round 1:
Start with a magic ring. Crochet three chain stitches and then fifteen double crochet stitches into the ring. Close the round with a slip stitch. You should have sixteen stitches total.
Round 2:
Start with three chain stitches followed by one double crochet into the same stitch. Chain three, skip one stitch, and make one single crochet into the next. Chain three again. This round is the upper half of the flower pattern. The motif consists of two joined double crochets, three chains, and two more joined double crochets, then three chains, skip one stitch, single crochet, three chains, and skip again. At the end of the round, crochet two joined double crochets, one chain, and one double crochet into the initial chain space. You should now be positioned in the center of a chain arch.
Round 3:
Chain one and make one single crochet into the chain arch. Create a petal into the single crochet, then another petal into the chain arch from the previous flower half, and another petal into the next three-chain arch. Join them together into one flower. Chain one and make one petal into the center of the flower. Crochet one double crochet into the single crochet. Now mirror the previous part: work one petal into the double crochet, another into the three-chain arch, and one more into the chain arch of the previous flower half. Join them together. Chain one, make a petal into the center of the flower, and one single crochet into the chain arch from the previous flower half. Repeat this process around. Finish the round with a slip stitch. Mark the double crochet stitches with stitch markers.
Round 4:
Chain one and make a single crochet into the next single crochet. Then chain four and work the upper half of a flower into the center of the flower from the previous round. Chain four again, single crochet into the next marked stitch (either a single crochet or a double crochet). Repeat the pattern. At the end of the round, make one chain and one double crochet into the final single crochet. You should be in the middle of a chain arch again. There are now eight flowers in the round. Move the stitch markers into the single crochets that were made into the double crochets.
Round 5:
Chain three to act as your first double crochet, then crochet another double crochet. Next, work a petal into the next chain arch and join it with the petal into the center of the flower and the next petal into the next chain arch. Join them into one full flower. Chain one and make a petal into the center of the flower. Then, single crochet into the chain arch from the previous round. In the marked stitch (where a double crochet was placed), increase by crocheting three petals (one into the single crochet, one into the flower arch, and one into the chain arch). Join them, chain one, and make a petal into the flower center. Work one double crochet into the marked single crochet.
Mirror this for the second half of the flower: one petal into the double crochet, one into the chain arch, and one into the previous flower half, join them, chain one, petal into the center, and single crochet into the next arch.
Then continue with one petal into the next single crochet, and petals into both of the following four-chain arches. Join, chain one, petal into the center of the flower, single crochet into the flower arch. At the end, finish with a petal into the center. This round introduces the “2–1” flower pattern visually. Move stitch markers again into the new single crochets placed into double crochets.
Round 6:
Chain three and make one double crochet into the flower center. Chain four, single crochet into the next marked single crochet or double crochet, chain four again. Then work an upper flower half into the center of the flower from the previous round. Repeat this sequence. At the end of the round, crochet a petal into the flower center, two chains, and one double crochet into the starting stitch. You now have twelve flowers.
Round 7:
Chain one for height and make one single crochet into the next arch. Then make one petal into the single crochet, one into the first chain arch, and one into the second chain arch. Join them to form one flower. Chain one and make one petal into the center. Then single crochet into the next arch. In the next increase section (where a double crochet was placed), work a petal into the single crochet, one into the flower arch, and one into the chain arch. Join them, chain one, petal into the center, double crochet into the marked stitch. Mirror the flower: petal into the double crochet, into the arch, and into the flower half, join, chain one, petal into the center, and single crochet into the flower arch. Continue with two full standard flowers, then increase again.
Repeat the “2–1–1” pattern to the end of the round. Finish with a slip stitch. You should now have sixteen flowers in the round.
Round 8:
Chain one for height and make a single crochet into the next single crochet. Chain four, work the upper half of a flower into the flower center from the previous round, chain four again, single crochet into the next marked stitch, and repeat. Continue to the end of the round.
Rounds 9 to 15:
Continue working the flower stitch without increases. End with a straight round, creating only the lower halves of the flowers.
Brim – using a 2 mm hook
Round 1:
Chain one for height. Crochet two single crochets into the side of each double crochet, then one into the flower center, two single crochets again, and one into the single crochet. Repeat this sequence. Finish the round with a slip stitch.
Round 2:
Chain one, single crochet into the same stitch. Then work two single crochets into the back loop only for every two stitches from the previous round. Repeat and finish with a slip stitch.
Round 3:
Same as round two – no increases. Work one single crochet into the back loop only in each stitch. Finish with a slip stitch.
Round 4:
Chain one, single crochet into the same stitch. Continue working in the back loop only. To create a wavy edge, make two single crochets into one stitch every fifth stitch. For a flatter brim, do this increase every sixth or seventh stitch instead. Finish the round with a slip stitch.
Rounds 5 to 9:
Continue straight rounds of single crochet into the back loop only. Finish with a slip stitch. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Finishing
Weave in all loose yarn ends using a tapestry needle to secure your work and give the hat a clean look. Your Re-Cotton Flower Hat is now ready to wear or gift!
